Magical Meridians

As I reach the three week mark, I decided it was time to visit Community Acupuncture of St Louis  This wonderful center provides #effective and #affordable#acupuncture treatments to the Saint Louis community. They believe that this ancient and powerful healing system should be accessible to everyone so the acupuncture treatments are on a sliding scale.

Acupuncture is a complete medical protocol from #TraditionalChineseMedicine focused on correcting imbalances of #energyin the body. All acupuncture practices involve the stimulation of specific points on the body using a variety of techniques, usually #needles.

Dr Weil says, “The traditional explanation for acupuncture’s effectiveness is that it modifies the flow of energy (known as #qi or #chi) throughout the body along channels called meridians. Research published in 2010 in Nature Neuroscience demonstrated that the effects of acupuncture needling include influencing the activity of #adenosine, an amino acid which becomes active in the skin after an injury to ease pain. This may explain in part why pain relief is often experienced as one of the benefits of acupuncture.”

The U.S Department of Health and Human Services states that, “promising results have emerged showing efficacy of acupuncture in adult #postoperative and #chemotherapy nausea and vomiting, and in postoperative #dental pain. There are other situations such as #addiction#stroke rehabilitation, #PTSD#headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, #fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and #asthma, in which acupuncture may be useful as an adjunct treatment.”

This study showed that certain modes of acupuncture improved postoperative pain after #surgery and reduced opioid use.

I always have a little anxiety about needles but Olivia’s skill, compassion and sweet presence immediately put me at ease. She is a licensed acupuncturist and has a Diplomate of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Body work and a Master of Arts in Oriental Medicine. I love the warm, welcoming energy of Community Acupuncture and always feel a healing after a treatment there.
