COLD LASER, WARM HEART

When my friend and colleague Dr Cheryl Shea DC (owner of Complete Wellness Center) offered to do a house call to do a ‘cold laser’ treatment I was intrigued.

Low-level #laser therapy (#LLLT) is a form of #light #therapy which uses low-frequency continuous laser for #pain reduction and #healing stimulation. Studies results are mixed with some demonstrating #analgesic and #anti-inflammatory effects. The use of low level laser reduces pain, inflammation and edema, to promote #tissue healing. #Mitochondria are thought to be a likely site for the initial effects of light, leading to increased #ATP production, modulation of reactive oxygen species, and induction of transcription factors. These effects in turn lead to increased cell proliferation and migration, particularly by #fibroblasts. LLLT devices are cleared as safe by the #FDA as adjunctive devices for the temporary relief of pain.
I found the treatment over my abdominal area and surgical wounds very soothing and am excited for the benefits of pain relief and wound healing. It was also wonderful to spend time with Cheryl and I was grateful for her offering of her time and expertise. #hysterectomyrecovery
